There is a Photo Walk this weekend in Derby UK which is a free social event for photographers
As Derby is a small city we don't do the usual guided tours but work on themes instead.
This weeks theme is Architecture or Urban Landscapes if the weather allows
Meet at 2:00 PM on Saturday 6th October 2012 outside the Quad, Market Square, Derby (map)
Check out the Facebook Page too or see upcoming Derby Photowalk events here
The Photowalk this month is being done by Tim, as I am away on a photography job this weekend

The Met Want To Suck Up All Your Data
The Met, London's police force, is buying "mobile device data extraction" devices that can suck all the data out of your phone "in minutes" -- that's where you've been, who you know, what you've said to them, what websites you visit, and, depending on your apps, what groceries you buy, when you've called for a cab, what your menstrual cycle is, what you eat, your passwords, and so on.
Kind of worrying for #Journalists and #photographers as sometimes the police don't listen or believe they need a search warrant for media gatherers working in journalism and are protected under PACE.

Any one know of any apps to prevent this?

A bit of Street Photography
Sorting out my photos in Adobe Lightroom 4 I found some images that had not seen any light.
They were taken during the Magnum Street Photography Workshop which was run during the Format Festival in Derby last year and I was with Bruce Gilden's group.

We Did Not Speak
Normally when I do Street Photography I end up in a conversation with the subject I have just photographed. Street Photography with a flash, is kind of obvious and people know they have been photographed so I spend a minute and have a chat with them. However with the iPhone and Street Photography there is no need people just don't notice it as its so small compared to my big DSLR camera, there is no conversation needed, if I tried to start one they would think I was strange.
With all this in mind I am hoping to switch to a rangefinder camera, bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a DSLR and easier to conceal

Derby Photo Walks for 2012
Starting in March myself and my photo buddy Tim are holding a monthly Derby Photo Walk.
Each monthly photo walk has a loose theme that you can interoperate, or you can just do your own thing and socialize. The purpose is to explore Derby and surrounding areas and seek out its visual interest as well as being a social thing. There is also informal advice and teaching available as well if desired. After we hang out at the Quad and look at any exhibitions that are on (as well as the Derby Museum) and relax while talking shop in the Coors bar with a beer or coffee.

Living in a village the notice board is an essential way to find out what is going on. Today the notice board had a reminder that it had been snowing
